Our Annual Christmas Luncheon was held yesterday at the Masonic Memorial Centre. Great turn out for the event. The weather even cooperated. There were treat bags for everyone plus the 2016 CN Calendar for each family. Several door prizes rounded out the afternoon. Everyone went home happy! Check out a couple of the photos below. Many thanks to Barbara Lange for coming out today and for being our guest speaker. Although the topic she presented wasn't what she had originally planned due to circumstances beyond her control, Barbara expertly pulled together another presentation in time for today's meeting.
Barbara informed us about the 2nd book she is busy working on -- about Grand Beach Memories. She gave us a slideshow with some of the old pictures she has collected thus far from various pensioners. She also shared with us some of the Grand Beach stories. No doubt, the slideshow brought back many wonderful memories of those bygone days. If you have some old photos of Grand Beach and the Beach Train as well as some memories to go with them, please email Barbara at railwaystories@hotmail.com. She would love to hear from you. Thank you Barbara for an excellent presentation. We are all looking forward to your next book! Eligibility for travel passes: The following information is from Darlene Cherry of Morneau Shepell.
The benefits rules are a bit different than the pension rules which sometimes causes confusion. A post retirement spouse is not entitled to pension survivor benefits under the plan. However, If the retiree is eligible to a Travel Card and then marries or remarries after retirement, the post-retirement spouse is eligible for the Travel Card (train pass). You can simply call our CN Pensions call centre at 1-800-361-0739, and request one. The Customer Service Agent will take the required information and let you know if anything further will be required to process the application. The next General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 1:30 p.m. at the Norwood Legion. Guest Speaker will be Barbara Lange. Her topic will be "Cruisin With Seniors" - Transportation Services and options for Seniors. Hope you will come out and learn about what is available to assist Seniors with transportation options for shopping, medical appointments, etc.
