We had a great turn out and of course the usual wonderful donut treats and coffee - thank to Ron Yarema for making a special trip to pick them up! Our guest speaker was Tam Yamashita from ALCOA. Her topic was preventing falls. Lots of great tips which included, strength and resistance exercises, balance exercises, proper nutrition (at least 3 nutritious meals per day), drinking 5 to 8 glasses of water, taking Vitamin D supplements, wearing shoes that offer a good grip and support and making sure you pick up any loose items on the floor that might cause you to trip. Tam even had us up doing exercises! For more information to take action to prevent falls, visit www.preventfalls.ca. Just a reminder --- our May monthly meeting is this Wednesday, May 6th at 1:30 at the Norwood Legion. Guest speaker will be from the Active Living Coalition For Older Adults - topic will be Preventing Falls. See you there!
Today is the last day of the Official Rail Safety Week. However, it is imperative to practice rail safety year round. Pledge to be safe around railroad tracks. I just took the pledge: I, Janet Lewis Anderson, pledge to be safe around crossings and railway lines. I promise to set the right example for my friends and family, and I pledge to report any unsafe behaviour to CN Police."
Visit www.mysafetypledge.com and take the pledge which will be available throughout 2015. However, if you as a retiree or active CN employee take the pledge today, you may be eligible to win a prize. |
